 Abstract

The chromosomes obtained from Catharcius molosus of subfamily Scarabaeinae were studied using standard staining, silver staining and C-banding. The karyotype of Catharcius molosus was comprised of 20 chromosomes with meioformula, 9AA+Xyp. Most of the chromosomes were metacentric and submetacentric in nature. Modal chromosome number and meta-, submeta- centric nature revealed the conservative nature of the subfamily Scarabaeinae. The analysis of constitutive heterochromatin (CH) revealed large fragments of chromosomes located on pericentric region in spermatogonial metaphase and small blocks located in the terminal regions of dumb bell shaped bivalents in metaphase I. Silver staining showed dense spots in pachytene stage of prophase I which were associated with nucleolar organizer regions. Along with this Chiasma frequency and terminalisation coefficient were also calculated which further revealed the close relationship of Catharcius molosus with other species of family Scrabaeinae. Structural changes in the chromosomes, distribution patterns of constitutive heterochromatin and localization of nucleolar organizer region on the chromosomes are equally important in the speciation of beetles and in other group of insects.

 Abstract

Weight reduction of locomotive wheel is beneficial to reduce manufacturing and material cost without much compromise in strength of wheel. This research is intended to reduce weight in hub region and tread region of locomotive wheel. Finite element analysis is performed using ANSYS software and CAD model of wheel is developed using Creo 2 software. Equivalent stresses and fatigue life of wheel is determined along with safety factor. The design of locomotive wheel is optimized for mass minimization using Response Surface Methodology.

 Abstract

The association between marital status and various aspects of physical and psychological well-being is one of the most well-established ones in the field of Psychology (Maastekasa, 1992). It is agreed upon that those who are married are better off than those who are co-habiting or single, and in turn, those who are co-habiting are better off than those who are single in terms of subjective quality of life and physical health (Maastekasa, 1992). Indian data also has shown similar leanings: in a large scale survey done in India, it was found that unmarried women reported higher levels of negative affect in comparison to women who were married at that time or had been married previously, and unmarried men reported higher levels of negative affect in comparison to married men (Agrawal et al., 2011). Does this imply that marriage is always desirable? The following paper sets out to answer this question particularly in the Indian context. Though most of the research that is quoted to support the arguments made is Western, it is due to paucity of relevant research data from India, and it is taken care at every point that the researches that are quoted are embedded in an explanation that is sensitive to the Indian reality.

 Abstract

A bad bank is created for the purpose of transferring the toxic assets of a regular bank to it so that the balance sheet of the regular bank can be cleaned up. The bad bank then services the transferred assets and liquidates them. During this process the bad bank incurs costs. While creating a bad bank several essential factors have to be kept in mind. Bad banks evolved out of several historical examples and have numerous advantages and disadvantages.

 Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the Occupational Stress level of Government and Aided Higher primary School Teachers living in different socio-cultural and economic situations. The scale used in the study has been developed by researches. 370 Aided school teachers and 240 Government teachers have participated in the present study. At the end of the study it was seen that Aided school teachers have more occupational stress levels than Government school teachers. There is a meaningful difference in the stress level points of Government and Aided Primary Teachers. Policy makers are advised to analyse the teacher training and assessment system with the assumption that personal and social characteristics and working conditions may have an effect on teacher occupational stress. Results also showed that teachers who reported greater stress were less satisfied with teaching, reported greater frequency of absences and a greater number of total days absent, were more likely to leave teaching (career intention), and less likely to take up a teaching career again (career commitment).Implications for further research are also discussed.

 Abstract

Oxygen and diet play a vital role in human life. A small fraction of the oxygen is diverted to form reactive oxygen species (ROS) either accidentally or deliberately. Organisms are well protected against free radical (FR) damage by antioxidant enzymes (AOE) such as Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT) or by antioxidant vitamins such as alpha-tocopherol, ascorbic acid, carotenoids, polyphenols and glutathione. The current study focused on the correlation between nutrition, blood lipid profile and estrogen levels as a function of age in women. Here we compared two nutritional regimens: a vegetarian diet with predominance of plant food with consumption of dairy products and an omnivorous diet predominantly non vegetarian food. Biochemical assessment of Oxidative Stress (OS) parameters such as lipid profile, blood glucose and methemoglobin levels along with the estrogen were done. From our study, methemoglobin levels showed 50% increase in adult non-vegetarians (ANV) when compared to young adult vegetarians (YAV), glucose concentration were also increased by 69% in young vegetarian (YV) group when compared to non-vegetarian group. Vegetarians irrespective of age showed higher triglycerides and lower high-density lipoprotein, probably suggesting a risk for developing cardio-vascular diseases. Antioxidant enzymes such as Superoxide dismutase (SOD) showed reduced activity in vegetarians irrespective of age with a increased Malondialdehyde content. The estrogen levels were significantly increased in young adults vegetarians when compared to adult vegetarians. Our result showed both the diet group are under the risk and was in contrast to the belief that vegetarian had a better health benefit because of their diet.

 Abstract

Migration is the demographic process that has been integral and a salient feature of human history since time immemorial. It is an important means by which human civilization spreads out, enriching cultures, disseminating ideas and governing, social, political and economic change at the place of origin and destination. Migration has been continuously drawing the attention of policy makers and academicians interested in looking in to the various impacts of population mobility from place to place. Accurate, consistent and timely information on global levels and trends in international migration are critical for designing well-managed migration policies.
